If this happens, Robinhood Crypto may decide to support the new forked asset. To receive the forked asset, you must have held your ETH on Robinhood Crypto starting from no later than 11:59 PM ET on September 13, until ETH withdrawals are reenabled after the Merge. Remember, there’s no guarantee that Robinhood Crypto will support the new asset. We’ll keep you updated on changes related to the Ethereum Merge event.
The Ethereum Merge
What is the Ethereum Merge?
The Ethereum Merge is a network upgrade that will change Ethereum’s current consensus mechanism from “proof of work” to “proof of stake.” Along with other improvements, this milestone will help Ethereum deliver on its commitment to become more scalable, secure, and sustainable. The Ethereum Merge is expected to happen around September 14, 2022.
How might this affect you?
Your crypto will remain safe and secure on Robinhood, as usual. No action is needed from you during the Merge.
What may be affected on the day of the Merge:
As a precaution, Robinhood will pause withdrawals of ETH, AVAX, COMP, LINK, MATIC, SHIB, and UNI during the Merge. This pause is a safety-first approach to ensure our systems and the blockchain are stable before continuing withdrawals.
Deposits of these crypto assets may be temporarily delayed during the Merge. We recommend not making any deposits of ETH, AVAX, COMP, LINK, MATIC, SHIB, or UNI during the Merge because they may take longer to complete.
What won’t be affected:
Your ability to deposit and withdraw other supported crypto assets through the crypto’s detail page.
Your ability to trade other supported crypto assets during the Merge.
When the Merge happens, we'll notify you with more details about how your crypto transfers will be affected.
Will Robinhood support a new crypto asset?
The upcoming Ethereum Merge may result in a hard fork, which could create a new crypto asset.
KEEP IN MIND Watch out for scams. Make sure you know who you are sending crypto to. Do not send ETH to anyone who offers to upgrade your ETH to ETH2. The crypto you currently hold with Robinhood Crypto will remain safely in our storage throughout the Merge. See How to identify and report scams to learn more.
